چکیده

In this paper, we are to develop a second-order LMS-type Volterra filter to reduce distortions of data transmission over analog telephone channels due the channel impulse response and inter-symbol interference (ISI). A novel approach for updating the linear and quadratic coefficients vectors of a second-order Volterra filter is presented. The innovative features of this algorithm provide distinct convergence treatment of the linear and quadratic Volterra filter kernels, and adaptive formulation for the convergence factors, hence providing a unique platform for both linear and nonlinear channel adaptive handling. Simulations are carried in an equalization set-up to compare the performance of this algorithm with conventional and variable step LMS algorithms. The obtained results show that this algorithm brings substantial increase in the convergence speed while keeping, to some extent, the simplicity of the conventional LMS algorithm. Considering the performance of the formulated algorithm, it could be a useful tool for adaptive equalization applications. Key-Words: Adaptive Filtering, Equalization, HOS-based LMS, Nonlinear Volterra filter.

Adaptive filtering using Higher Order Statistics (HOS)

The performed job, in this study, consists in studying adaptive filters and higher order statistics (HOS) to ameliorate their performances, by extension of linear case to non linear filters via Volterra series. This study is, principally, axed on:  Choice of the adaptation step and convergence conditions.  Convergence rate.  Adaptive variation of the convergence factor, according to the inpu...

Penalized least squares estimation of Volterra filters and higher order statistics

| Volterra lters (VFs) and higher order statistics (HOS) are important tools for nonlinear analysis, processing, and modeling. Despite their highly desirable properties, the transfer of VFs and HOS to real-world signal processing problems has been hindered by the requirement of very large data records needed to obtain reliable estimates. The identiication of VFs and the estimation of HOS both f...

Nonlinear Active Noise Control Using Volterra Filtering with a Variable Step-size Gs-pap Algorithm

In this paper, a nonlinear active noise control (ANC) is proposed using adaptive Volterra filtering with a variable step-size Gauss-Seidel pseudo affine projection (VSSGSPAP) algorithm. In particular, it requires a lower computational burden than the VSS affine projection (VSSAP) algorithm, and provides an improved convergence as the VSSAP algorithm does. Simulation results show that the propos...
